In his teens it was evident that Reynir Lyngdal was born to be a film-maker. He started fiddling with cameras and telling stories and won numerous awards for video art and short films.
Reynir studied cinematic arts at the prestigious CECC in Barcelona, shortly after graduating he directed a slew of shorts and choreographic shorts, winning awards and exhibiting around the globe including the Reykjavik Short Film Festival, Nordisk Panorama, Prague Shorts Festival, the St. Petersburg International Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival.
SInce then Reynir has been prolific and diverse in his craft, directed comedy sketch shows, TV series called The Lava Field (Netflix) and two feature films, in addition to multiple commercials campaigns around the world. He is currently developing many projects, including a fantasy film with support from Icelandic Film Centre named Trollseeker (Tröllabarn).
Lyngdal’s music video and commercial efforts have received a number of awards at home and abroad. His commercials for Thule Breweries were shortlisted at Cannes Lions. He has directed over 400 commercials in his native Iceland as well as internationally.
