Magnús Leifsson is from Reykjavík, Iceland. Magnús, originally a graphic designer, got into filmmaking when working as a scriptwriter for a comedy show in Iceland. Later he started directing music videos and during the recent years he has been Iceland’s most active music video director, working with internationally known artists like Of Monsters And Men, Ólafur Arnalds, Hatari, múm and Víkingur Ólafsson.
After gaining widespread attention with his music videos, Magnús got into directing commercials when he signed with Republik Film Production in Iceland, with whom he has since worked on numerous award-winning projects. Dovetail is his debut short film and won short film of the year at the Iceland Film Awards in february 2019. Magnus resides in his beloved Reykjavik and you can quite often see him play b-ball at the city’s public basketball courts.
